             abstract = "This paper analyzes the formation of heat islands in the central 
                         area of the city of Cuiab{\'a} - MT, capital of Mato Grosso, 
                         during the period from 2003 to 2011, due to the rapid urbanization 
                         of the metropolitan area, which has caused changes in land cover 
                         and surface temperatures. For this study was used used ten images 
                         with temporal variations of one year, collected during the dry 
                         northeast region, through the Thematic Mapper sensor on board the 
                         Landsat 5 satellite. Using the thermal band which is related to 
                         the infrared channel, the figures were transformed digital 
                         temperature data surface by means of the software Matlab. The 
                         results show a tendency of higher temperatures at the site of the 
                         oldest area in the historic center of the city, however, the 
                         formation of the phenomenon of the heat islands in the region had 
                         a greater influence of the occurrence of local temperatures 
                         higher.",
